Norek Campaign - Chapter 12

Session Notes

As they move onto the road heading toward Norek, they encounter six of Norinth.  They are battered and bruised, many of them sporting injuries and all of them have a defeated look, making them look depressed.  There is one horse carrying one of their comrades who has seen better days - he is missing a leg.

The leader of the Norinth, Old Dan is a grizzled veteran.

"24 soldiers were on a routine circle patrol of the outer region of Norek and they passed through Slaw a few days ago.  As they headed towards the Ly-Aran border they expected trouble and trouble arrived.  They were set upon by a small force (10) of Lugroki, when the patrol organised themselves, the Lugroki turned and fled toward the border.  The Lugroki turn and start to fight, they are also joined by three Greater Lugroki, who even the odds.  The large Lugroki began to do a bit of damage, it was taking three soldiers each just to slow them down.  The Greater Lugroki use huge spears in one hand and a mace in the other.

The three Greater Lugroki take down six soldiers, but the Lesser Lugroki have lost quite a few of their number.

When suddenly, out of nowhere, comes an enormous monster - over nine feet tall.  The monster has the head of a bull and wields an enormous double-headed battleaxe.  The stench coming from the creature is awful, and many of the men vomit uncontrollably.

By this time there was only one Greater Lugroki and six Lesser remaining.  This creature charges into the thick of the men and begins to melee.  Eventually the soldiers rally and 12 of them charge the beast, knocking it to the ground, stabbing and slicing in a frenzy of battle-lust.  As they return to defending themselves against the rest of the Lugroki - there are only ten of them left - the creature gets up and begins the fight again, it's wounds healing as they watch.

Old Dan called a retreat and backed off.  The Lugroki and the beast back off into the forest and disappear.

They passed through Slaw yesterday on their way back to Norek and came across the villagers.  They stayed for the day helping them to rebuild the place and heard tales of a seven players driving off the attackers and a knight and his lady miraculously healing the citizens.

When they approach the gates of Norek, a bell sounds and the gates close.  This is a training exercise.

As they arrive at the closed gates, there is a large covered wagon pulled by two horses.  Atop the carriage is the cloth merchant from the first game.  He dislikes Sira and Biryn intensely and warns the guards to watch out for this mob.

The temperature begins to climb as they approach Norek, it is around 36 degrees.  Strange weather rolling in.  The "Thrus Ku"

Biryn immediately stalks off across the city, saying he must get to the temple to "sort this all out"

Sira is troubled by something and tells them he must spend some time meditating with Shaal.

Ferox simply wanders off from the group while they are planning, whispering quietly to the Rumtifusel perched on his shoulder.  He is soon lost in the crowd.

When the rest of the adventurers arrive at the Red Headed Lady... Dehl is giving a report to a group of Sentinels.  She has an arm in a sling and a splint on her leg as well as a bruised and battered face.

The Crime

The Red Headed Lady

Six men were playing dagger games in the pub late last night when they got a little unruly with one of the locals.  The locals took offence and a fight broke out.  During the fight one of the men pushed Dehl into the kitchen area and demanded the days takings.  Dehl handed them over, there wasn't a lot.  Despite stinking of alcohol the man did not seem overly drunk.  He then asked where the safe was and Dehl said she didn't know.  The man became violent and beat the crap out of her.  She finally showed it to him and he was furious that it only contained a small amount of money - 3 gp in total.  He smashed her in the face, knocking her unconscious.  A neighbor from across the road saw the six men leaving the inn and head south toward the library.  A few minutes later the Sentinels arrive from their post to the North.

The Sea to Shining Sea

Twelve men entered the warehouse this morning, rounded up the employees at sword and dagger point and closed the doors.  The manager, Gedrin Korbo had not shown up for work this morning and a runner had been dispatched to his house to fetch him as soon as the other staff arrive.  The men began to systematically smash up the equipment in the warehouse and load the goods into a waiting wagon at the back.  On the dock was a small barge, of the regularly rented type which the goods were then loaded onto.  The men worked quickly and efficiently sinking three barges tied at the dock and smashing another one being repaired inside.  The employees are terrified and six of them quit on the spot.

Korbo arrived home last night to find his house in the process of being burgled.  He was about to call for the Sentinels when a man leapt from an upper-story window and beat him to a pulp.  Unfortunately the men found the money - hidden in his sock drawer, and made off with it.  A couple of witnesses say there were at least three men who went scuttling off down the alley.  The Sentinels arrived soon after.  Korbo is currently in a critical but stable condition at a local healer.  His friend is staying in house and tidying it up.

Of course, the Sentinels want to know why someone might target them, where they got the money from and where they have been.  They are obviously the victims and so the Sentinels will do the interviews in situ rather than 'down the station'

Pith shows up at the Red Headed Lady looking for work again - running the bar.  After the werewolves Lair he ran back to Gosferd where his family was supposedly being held and found Benwe and his sick companions had murdered them all.  He had suspected all along that this was the case but had clung to a glimmer of hope that they regularly fanned to keep him loyal.

Now he simply needs some way of making a living.  He will explain that he was the one that built up the bar after the original owners moved away and instigated the rumour swapping.
