Norek Campaign - Chapter 11

The only light came from the flickering torches they carried, shadows scurried across the smooth walls.  They climbed up the sharp incline for nearly a mile before coming to a set of winding stairs leading upward.  It was now cold at the foot of the stairs and a whistling wind could be heard coming from far above.  Lysar spots both human and larger, heavier footprints as well as the tracks of Ferox's Rumtifusel.

Meethe has realised his daughter never planned on staying at the house, helping him execute his vengeance.  He is furious and decides to ally with Ferox to catch up with his daughter.

They begin the ascent.  Both Biryn and Ulrich are suffering, the last few days and in particular the last few hours exertions leaving them breathless and pale.  Their armour, invaluable in battle was now more of a hindrance.

The others were not faring so well either.  The proximity of so many undead had left them depressed and bone-weary.

Finally the ascent was over and they staggered out into a cave.  It was now dark outside on the gods knows what day and most of them collapse near the mouth of the cave and fall instantly to sleep.

The Western side of Brank Mountain

Berrak wandered out onto the ledge, scattering ashes as he walked, remnants of a recent campfire from the looks of things.  His elven-enhanced vision adjusted to the darkness and he realised then that they had come out the other side of Brank mountains.  He could see the land on either side of him converging to a tip.  That must be Ly-Aran, once a powerful nation joined with U-Lyshak under the Sea-Drake Crown, it was now said to be nothing but a desolate wasteland broken only by haunted ruins of a lost civilisation.

The Bay of Elysea stretches to the west, a small, thin strip of land separated it from Ulor Bay to the north-west.

Juzlin and the golems leave large tracks although Juzlin's disappear within a few feet of the cave.

There is no way off the ledge other than to climb.  The climb is about forty feet straight up or, alternatively four hundred straight down.  An observation maneuver may reveal an easier way up a feet away.  If a jump could be made, then that person would have a Medium Climb rather than a Hard one.  If rope is tied around the character, then it becomes a Light maneuver to scale the face, although the players above have to make a STR RR - STR Bon - Lvl.  Each rank above Easy is the attacking level x 5.

For example.

Ulrich is pulling Biryn up the cliff.  Ulrich is in full chain mail and is pretty heavy anyway.  Hard Pull then.

Ulrich's (+13 STR) 13th Level STR goes against a 15th level attack from the cliff.

For Biryn he must make a Light Climbing maneuver.  If he fails then Ulrich's maneuver becomes a Very Hard on or a 20th level attack.

The four scrolls that Ash is carrying:

  • Whirlwind - Gas Alteration (15) Mystic Base
  • Heal - 5-50 Hits
  • Rune Paper - capable of accepting a 1-2 lvl spell
  • Mind's Song - Sound Control (30) Bard Base.  AKA Lay of Lucan
